Organization Information
ITQB NOVA is an Organic Unit of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Its mission is to carry out scientific research and postgraduate teaching in chemistry, life sciences, and associated technologies, while serving the community and promoting science and technology. ITQB NOVA is one of the leading research centres for the chemical and life sciences in Portugal, and a major national and international resource for basic and applied research. ITQB NOVA has a strong expertise in Molecular Biosciences, with knowhow in Molecular and Structural Biology, Cellular and Molecular Biology Biotechnology and Systems Biology, and Chemical Biology. This expertise drives research with impact in two strategic societal challenges: the well-being of human societies (Molecular Basis of Health and Disease) and the environment (Biological Resources and Sustainable Development). Currently with 63 independent labs, ITQB NOVA hosts more than 460 researchers (including 132 PhD holders and 255 PhD students) with different backgrounds and research interests, contributing to the vibrant scientific atmosphere on site. Researchers benefit from first-rate equipment, research facilities, and support services to carry out competitive research projects. Education is centred on Advanced Studies, mostly at the level of Master and PhD programs. ITQB NOVA coordinates three FCT-funded PhD Programs and participates in seven others.
